Our Civil Union will take place at Frog Meadow Farm, our home and gardens atop Newfane Hill. We want the day to be a reflection of both of us and the life we have created for ourselves. If descriptions like fun, pleasant, comfortable, NOT stuffy, and NOT TOO formal immediately come to mind when you think of either Scott or Dave, then that’s the kind of clothing to wear.
Many people have asked us “Will it be a black tie affair?” or “Will you guys both wear tuxedos (or Gowns) down the aisle?” Others have said, “Gee, I’ve never been to a Civil Union before, what’s appropriate to wear?” Well, we’ve never been to a Civil Union before, either, so we’re making the rules up as we go along. We have no plans to for tuxedos, gowns, uncomfortable shoes, or the like. We’ll wear something that reflects who we are (no, not mirrored ties!) and are requesting that our guests do so as well.
WEAR WHITE!
Yes, WHITE. It will be summer in Vermont, our Gardens will be in full bloom, it will be nice on the eyes, and will make for gorgeous photos. Make believe you are attending a really fun “English Garden Party” and bear in mind you might find yourself playing bocci, croquet or tossing a Frisbee around sometime during the day.
Still stumped? Think white or beige or khaki or taupe, dove gray or even off-white. No need to over dress or under dress – or feel you will be overdressed or underdressed. Just be comfortable! The possibilities are endless.
Most importantly, we want everybody to enjoy themselves and have fun!
Some guidelines...
Ties are optional
Jackets are optional
Shoes are optional (remember, this is Vermont)
In a pinch? Painter’s pants and a T-shirt are cool!
Can’t come up with an ensemble? TOGA!
Just say “NO” to...
Tuxedos or other “formal wear”
Spike heels – (men or women) it’s tough to walk around in a garden in those things (and even tougher to dance in them)!
White belts on men (save them for Florida!)
